How to drink Tequila, and the thing with the worm!

Good 100% pure Agave Tequila shall be enjoyed pure. A Tequila Reposado usually in a Sherry glass, a Tequila Añejo also in a Cognac glass.

The round taste of good, aged Tequila unfolds at room temperature.

The Tequila shall not be enjoyed with salt and lemon – a common practise in Europe to neutralize the taste of cheap Tequila. This habit is not known in Mexico.

In bars and restaurants in Mexico a Tequila Blanco is served together with a glass of  Sangrita and a glass of lime juice in three different glasses. This is called a Banderilla.

A German speciality is a Tequila Gold (Mixto quality) with an orange slice and a pinch of cinnamon. Also the "Swedish" version is unknown in Mexico. A coffee bean in a Tequila Blanco together with a slice of orange with a pinch of cinnamon. While drinking, bite in the coffee bean.

These rituals are to neutralize taste of cheap Tequila Mixto and shall be avoided when you enjoy a Premium Tequila.

Everywhere in the world Tequila is used to prepare good cocktails. For Cocktails mostly Tequila Mixtos are used, but also high-quality cocktails with 100% Agave Tequila are enjoying growing popularity.

Tequila and the worm

Tequila does not have anything with a worm to do. This persistent rumor is false. Some Mezcal varieties from the region of the state of Oaxaca have a Maguey worm in the bottle. A legend says that the wurm is increasing sexual potency. The worm is actually a caterpillar.
